STOWE 8-MILER ROAD RACE 7/18/10
The GMAA had a great turnout at the recent Stowe 8 mile road race. There were almost 60 GMAA members who showed up to race and this helped
most of the teams all pace in the top 3. There were several individuals who also ran well and placed in their age groups which was impressive
considering the almost 900 runners that were there.
The men’s veterans’ team had the top finish of the day with a win in the 60-69 division. First time member runner Ed McSweeney led the way
with Bud White, Chuck Arnold, John Valentine and Richard Wright all helping to score. The men’s master and senior team also had great
finishes with each team getting 2nd place against very tough competition from all over New England. Josh Brown, Binney Mitchell,
Joe Noonan, Norm Larson and Tony Bates led the master’s team and Norm and Tony also led the senior team. Josh, Norm, Ed, and
Buddy also all placed in their age groups. The open team was led by Teage O’Conner with a time of 44:05 and Ray Webster and
Ryan Kerrigan also helped to score.
The women had a great showing and were able to score in all the team divisions. The master and senior teams each got 3rd place
finishes due to the outstanding running of Anne Bliss, Martha Perkins, Heidi Smith, Ruth Blauwiekel, and Moira Durnin. Ruth and
Moira also scored for the senior team as well as Cathy Martell, Holly Rainville, and Deb Tirrito. Megan Valentine had the top
time of the day with a 53:37 and Katie White, Jessica Bolduc, and Courtney Kutler also helped score for the Women’s open team.
There are pictures of the many of the runners near the 7 mile point of the course. It was great to see so many people wearing their GMAA singlet’s and showing up to run.
