1st Annual GMAA Kaynor's Sap Run

Summary: An unexpectedly large crowd of 82 runners plus an estimated 45 spectators braved the bumps and mud to come to Kaynor's Sugarhouse for the first Annual GMAA Sap Run.
The course was shortened from 10K to 6.0 miles in order to avoid congestion and mud on our driveway. Starting time was delayed from 1:00 to 1:17 for logistical reasons, but the runners were patient and the race proceeded without disruption. Times were given to all at the 1 mile by Kurt Lauenstein and at the 3 mileby Chapin Kaynor for runners who made the distance in 20 minutes or less.
Sugar-on-snow for 120, pickles, 20 dozen donuts and beverages were consumed afterwards. The Downhill Edge donated 2 pair of shoes which wen to Peter Millard (1st male runner) and Anne Schivone (1st female runner). Prizes of maple syrup were awarded to the first two finishers in each of the 7 categories and to 5 runners selected at random. The cool air kept most people from staying around for long afterwards, and the cold weather meant that there was no sap to boil on that day.
Many, many thanks to the many volunteers who helped by manning road crossings, scoring, etc. Without all of you, it could not have been done. We look forward to repeating this madness at about the same time next year.
