A bus full of GMAA runners headed off to New Bedford on a very sunny St. Patrick's Day afternoon. On the way down, we watched Hangover 2 (it's now tradition) and enjoyed narration by our "cruise director" Russ Cooke. After a brief pee stop at the NH Liquor Store where we almost left KP behind, we rolled towards our new hotel right in the heart of New Bedford. Dinner was catered in and the highlight was the ice cream cakes to celebrate Russ' 60th Birthday. After dinner, an adventurous crew headed out to find a package store and President Cover made a quick friend and scored a St. Patty's Day themed bowler.
Sunday morning started off cold, with discussions about capris versus shorts abounding at breakfast. However, it warmed up quickly and most people were happy in shorts and singlets by the 11 am start. After a bit of a registration snafu, we all took to warming up and pre-race routines and even grabbed a group picture by the bus with our brand new sign. Soon enough, the race was underway. Despite a serious headwind at mile 8, PRs abounded for many and we had one of our most successful team racing days to date.
The top individual for men was Joe Noonan, clocking a 1:13:51 and 4th in his division. The top woman was Megan Malgeri, with a 1:22:47, 3rd in her division and 6th female overall.
