33rd Annual GMAA Archie Post Five Miler
September 8, 2001

A new all-bike path, certified course and great weather greeted the largest turnout since 1983 - 126 finishers. Many runners raved about the rolling path that headed through both woodlands and open countryside. The weather was a little warm for September - 73 degrees, but a 10mph South tailwind helped move runners up the first and last hills. A fast field this year included 8 runners under 29 minutes, with Marc Gilbertson winning in a fast time of 26:02. Sue McNamara topped the women's field in a time of 32:10. Both set a good bar for the inaugural course records. One time to note is 63 year old Donald Ardell of Tampa Florida who finished in a remarkable 31:27 - imagine how fast he was 40 years ago! Let's hope the turnout and weather is this good again next year.
