The 2010 road racing season started off with great weather and good running by 19 GMAA members who made it down to Amherst, Massachusetts on Sunday 28, 2010. There was full van load of 12 runners who met at 6:30 am for a nice sunny ride down on race morning. We met the other 7 members who drove down separately in case the forecasted snow storm arrived, which fortunately didn’t.
Most of the runners did very well considering it was the first race for many in a long time. Ryan Robitaille led the Open team to an impressive 6th place finish against a very fast and large field of almost 700 runners. Todd Archambault and Joe Noonan also helped score in the Open division. The men’s veterans team led by Norm Larson, Tony Bates, and Ken Schatz continued their 2009 running streak with a 3rd place finish. Norm and Tony also help score points in the Open and Masters divisions with their impressive times which were under the USATF Age Group guidelines. Norm also won the 50-59 age group.
Meg Valentine, Carlie Krolick, Ellie Bouffard, and Ruth Blauwiekel were the only women to make this trip but it was enough for them all to score with a 9th place finish in the Open team division and a 7th place finish in the Masters race. Chuck Arnold and Bob Sayers repeated this year’s race with PR’s on the course. Matt Alexander and Mike Bessette joined the group as well for their first attempts at a 10 mile road race and did very well.
