Wow! The GMAA descended on New Bedford with 4 vehicles carrying 34 team members. The fun of the van ride down spilled onto the race course as well with a critical mass of Vermonters providing a Vermont feel to the race as runners saw so many familiar faces and the "polite" race chatter that went with it. Late winter sandbagging proved true to form from the mid-packers all the way up to the club's most talented runners with many setting PRs on the scenic course. The weather cooperated with sunshine and temperatures in the low 30s. The wind blew at various times, but was only a factor in the final 5K. High ranking personal performances include Rick Rountree's 8th overall + 3rd in 25-29, Norm Larson's 1st 50-54, Kasie Enman's 3rd overall and 2nd 25-29, Paul Huyffer's 2nd 65-69, and Dot Helling's 2nd 55-59. Notable team performances include a 1st in men's senior and 3rd in men's master! The April issue of New England Runner said to "look for a speedier, more competitive GMAA to emerge" - certainly a correct prediction for the first team race of the year.
