Weather: mostly sunny, light south wind, temp in the low sixties
Race Directors: Steve and Cathy Eustis
Summary: Ideal weather was enjoyed by all 109 finishers in this
year's race. Binney Mitchell won his fourth Archie Post in 26:34 by staying
six seconds ahead of another four time winner, Jim Miller. Jim set the
40-49 age group record with his performance. He also happens to hold the
race record of 24:22 from 1981 (he hasn't slowed much in 21 years!). Sam
Davis rounded out the top three in 26:55. Steve Titcomb set the 50-59 age
group record in a time of 31:43. On the women's side, Stephanie Carr led
the field in 32:37 and set the 20-29 age group record. Second and third
were Oonagh McHugh Dillon (34:10) and Courtney Gates (34:58). Patty Foltz
set the 50-59 age group record in a time of 35:15. I would also like to
acknowledge our youngest runners, Abby Mitchell and John Donnelly, who
are both 12 years old and ran well.
The Post family came to watch and participate in this year's race. Jeff
and Kim Stevens (grandchildren) ran the race (Kim placed third in the women's
40-49). Archie's wife Persis (who looks great at 94 years old!) and two
daughters Dorothy (Post) Stevens and Jean (Post) Lamphear cheered on the
runners. The family thanked the GMAA and all the runners present for keeping
the spirit of Archie alive and well. Thanks to the family for coming and
giving all of us the personal side of Archie Post!
