18th Annual GMAA Archie Post Five Miler

September 13, 1986
Burlington, VT
Race Director: Bruce Cunningham
Comments: Our 9a.m. start this year was in near perfect conditions - cool and clear with a breeze from the south. Although the field was relatively small, the quality was high and the runners had good times as well as a good time.

As it was two years ago, this race was again affected by the Burlington Triathlon. Until three months ago, both events were scheduled for the same day but, as you may have noted in our previous schedule, we could not determine the date for the triathlon until that time. Since their event would have been much more difficult to reschedule, we agreed to move the Archie Post to Saturday - hopefully to get some fo the runners back as well as avoid traffic problems. It turns out that the number of runners in this race was the same as two years ago when the two events were on the same day. Aparently all we accomplished was avoiding traffic conflicts. The triathlon organizers are considering moving their event a week later next year but a storm of protest is already rising due to the expectation of even colder water temperatures. We don't want to compete with this event so we will look at our whole schedule for next year to see what we can do to get the Archie Post at least two weeks away from the triathlon.
